Bankruptcy
Bankruptcy protection is not limited to large corporation. Individuals and small businesses, too, can seek protection under the Federal Bankruptcy Code.
Seacoast Law attorneys can work with these clients to provide a fresh start after financial hardship, while at the same time providing for equity among creditors. We offer advice about the types of relief available through bankruptcy and can work with you throughout the process—from initial consultation through discharge of debts.
Real Estate Law
Seacoast Law offers comprehensive real estate services to both individuals and small businesses by combining our real estate law expertise with our own in-house abstracting and settlement company.
Our in-house title company provides abstracting, title insurance, loan document preparation, and settlement services to individuals, professional realtors, and financial lenders in both commercial and residential matters.
Recognizing the importance of comprehensive support to our clients, we provide a variety of collateral referrals to some of the best resources in the industry, including mortgage financing, land development, residential builders, credit counseling and repair, and tax matters.
Corporate & Business Organization Law
Seacoast Law, in accordance with the corporate laws of the State of Maine, provides legal representation to small businesses on the selection of the appropriate corporate entity and structure, corporate governance, employment law, real estate transactions, purchases and sales of business entities, and insurance compliance. Our firm serves as corporate counsel, assuming the role of corporate clerk and provides necessary corporate documents in statutory compliance.
We serve out-of-state clients as corporate clerks offering in-state business expansion. We also specialize in non-profit entities and their statutory compliance. Seacoast Law offers collateral resources to further enhance and protect our business clients with a focus on their individual and corporate success.
Equine Law
Seacoast Law is one of the few firms in New England to offer comprehensive counsel in the area of equine law. We provide contracts in compliance with both Maine and New Hampshire Equine Liability Statutes. We represent individuals and businesses involved in the horse industry, with a focus on minimizing liability through incorporations and risk assessments, effective and necessary use of contracts, and business marketing to enhance client development.
Senior counsel Mary-Anne Martell offers this exclusive service to individuals and entities that want to establish and develop an equine facility or related business. Appointed to the Maine Harness Racing Commission by Gov. Baldacci in 2007, Mary-Anne has a long history of involvement in the Maine horse community and brings that expertise to clients.
Family Law
Protecting and advocating for the rights of both parents and children—including both traditional and non-traditional families—has long been a cornerstone of Seacoast Law.
We are uniquely qualified to represent clients in a myriad of family law issues:
- Divorce proceedings
- Establishing parental rights and responsibilities
- Modifying child custody and child support agreements
- Guardian ad litem services
- Domestic partnership agreements
Estate Planning
Everyone needs to plan for the future. Estate planning isn’t just for the very wealthy. Everyone should have, at the very least:
- A will
- An advanced healthcare directive (a living will)
- A financial power of attorney
Having these tools in place will ensure that in the event of illness or death, your wishes are honored.
At Seacoast Law, estate planning is about more than simply having a will. Understanding the tax code and what happens to assets after death is complex. With a coordinated estate plan, we can help reduce, if not eliminate, your tax liability and help you preserve more of your life’s work for your family and loved ones.
Personal Injury
Seacoast Law offers representation and referral to plaintiffs in personal injury issues:
- Automobile accidents and other accidental injuries can play havoc with people’s lives. Inability to work, no working vehicle, and mounting medical bills add stress to an already overburdened situation.
- Personal injury claims from defective products, drug-toxic chemicals, libel and slander, malpractice law, and property damage can be equally stressful.
- Our experienced attorneys can also help clients involved in any type of personal injury proceedings deal with structured settlements. Before dismissing your situation as “too small,” talk with our attorneys.
Alternative Dispute Resolution
Seacoast Law offers alternative dispute resolution in negotiation, mediation, and arbitration. We are specialists in dispute resolution processes and techniques, and our attorneys can work outside of the governmental judicial process.
The rising popularity of alternative dispute resolution can be attributed to the increasing caseload of traditional courts, fear of the costs of litigation, a preference for confidentiality, and the desire of the parties to have more control in deciding the outcome of their dispute.
